Quinn Estates welcomes students from The John Wallis Academy for career workshops

Quinn Estates welcomed students from The John Wallis Academy in Ashford to their offices in Canterbury for a unique insight into the possible career opportunities available within the property and construction industry today.

In addition to a talk from CEO and Chairman, Mark Quinn, the Quinn Estates team delivered workshops explaining the different areas of the industry, including planning and construction. The group of 12 Year 13 students also discovered more about the skills and qualifications required for key roles within the sector.

The event marks the continuation of a newly formed relationship with the school that will include the potential opportunity for the students to complete apprenticeships with the leading South East mixed-use developer. The partnership began following the Ashford Snowdogs 2018 auction, in aid of Pilgrims Hospices, when Quinn Estates donated the John Wallis Infinity Dog to the school.

Mark Quinn, CEO and Chairman of Quinn Estates, said: “It was fantastic to have Year 13 students from The John Wallis Academy in our office to learn more about the different careers and education pathways within the construction industry. As a company we are passionate about delivering exceptional community gains and a big part of this is supporting the next generation.”

John McParland, Principal of The John Wallis Academy, said: “Quinn Estates have been a friend of The John Wallis Academy ever since the company donated one of the Ashford Snowdogs named “The John Wallis Snowdog” to the school last year. I’m really grateful to the Quinn Estates team for the opportunity they have given to our students. They experienced a real buzz from being here today and will leave with ideas of what they want to in the future. Who knows, that might be working at Quinn Estates!”

The workshop received positive feedback from students, who left inspired to consider careers they had previously known nothing about.  One student said: “It was such a great opportunity to go into a business that is having such a big impact locally and gain insight into how it operates.”

Another student said: “The sessions really made you think more about what you want to do next and helped you to see the different paths you can take to get to the same place.”

Quinn Estates are a prominent developer within Ashford having already delivered key schemes including Connect 38, the first building to be launched as part of the town’s commercial quarter. One of Quinn Estates’ most ambitious future developments in Ashford is Newtown Works, a transformative mixed-use development centred on the creation of TV and film production space.
