Quinn Estates submit planning application for Newtown Works in Ashford
– Film studio led development will be ‘game changer’ for Kent’s international town –
Quinn Estates, one of the South East’s most proactive mixed-use developers, has submitted its long-awaited planning application for the transformation of a derelict town centre site into state-of-the-art TV and film studios, a luxury hotel and high-quality apartments.
The proposals for Newtown Works have the potential
to bring new jobs and opportunities to Ashford with the borough becoming a
significant new centre for the global streaming broadcast revolution with four
state-of-the-art studios that will facilitate all aspects of TV and film
production in a highly accessible location.
The commercial space is expected to deliver in excess of 2,000 direct jobs, as well as 915 indirect jobs across the South East. With the creative industries the fastest growing sector in the UK this new UK hub for TV and film has the potential to make a major contribution to both Ashford and the wider county’s part in that success.
The construction phase will attract £152 million of inward investment into the borough, generating 585 direct construction jobs and a further 880 indirect jobs into the wider economy. It will also act to conserve and enhance this key reminder of Ashford’s long industrial heritage.
Subject to planning consent being granted, Quinn Estates intends to commence work on site next year, with The Creative District Improvement Co (TCDICo) leading on attracting one or more of the world’s leading content providers to join this exciting new phase in Ashford’s regeneration. TCDICo will also operate the studios, once built.
